Life Legacy

Leta Mae Hathman, 78, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Cox Medical South. She was born May, 10, 1934, in Columbia, Missouri, to Jackson and Thiasa Neal.

A caring member of her community, Leta was a passing smile to all. Using her creative grace to not only raise her two sons, Jackson Ray Hathman, Jr. and David Wendall Hathman, but also applying it to 22 years of Interior Decorating at Sears and 10 honoring years as Red Lobsters’ manager. Going through struggles in her life such as losing both her parents and her son, Jackson Ray Hathman, Jr., she remained strong. Known as a fighter another battle she had to face was breast cancer, which she overcame and had been in remission for 12-years.

Married at the age of 15 to husband, Jack Hathman, she enjoyed a successful and happy marriage of 62 years. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma, Leta is survived by her husband, Jack Hathman; son, David Hathman; granddaughter, Rachel S.; and grandsons, Jackson Ray Hathman III and Jeremy Charles Hathman. All whom she cared for deeply and will never truly leave, as she will forever be in their hearts. May her light never go out, once a ray of sunshine, now a shining star.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers and/or gifts, that memorial donations be made in Leta's name to either the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research or the American Heart Association for Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Research. Thank you and God Bless.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, Missouri.
